How to set up a secondary conversion goal?

Modified on Thu, 30 Oct at 12:47 PM

For businesses that want to use two different conversion goals in their microexperiences, a secondary goal can be added after onboarding is completed. This is how it will look like once it's added:

Primary goal → The main action your experience is optimized for.
Secondary goal → An additional action visitors can take if they’re not ready for the main one.

⚠️ For first-time clients, Pathmonk strongly recommends starting with one conversion goal only. This allows us to isolate success factors, measure uplift accurately, and validate results. After one or two months, if the primary goal has been validated, a secondary goal can then be incorporated.

When to add a secondary goal

Some companies have combined conversion opportunities on their website. For example:

  • An e-commerce store might want visitors to make a purchase but also leave their details for a custom offer.

  • A service-based business might want one button to redirect to a page and another to launch a qualification flow.

In these cases, adding a secondary goal can help capture additional intent that might otherwise be lost.

However, it’s best to add a secondary goal only after your primary goal is performing well and showing consistent results. This ensures that Pathmonk’s AI can continue optimizing effectively without diluting focus.

⚠️ Note: Adding too many options can create decision fatigue for users. Always make sure the secondary goal supports your main objective rather than distracting from it.

Creating a secondary goal

Once you’ve validated your primary conversion goal and are ready to add another, follow these steps:

1. Go to Accelerate Growth → AI Configuration.

2. In the Secondary Target section, click Create.

3. Configure your goal by selecting the desired conversion type and implementation method.
