Troubleshooting Goal Tracking

Review the most common reasons goals are not reflected in Pathmonk goal tracking reporting

Goal tracking is designed to continuously and automatically track goals without manual intervention.  However, there are occasions where the goals are not tracking as expected.  We will share some common issues and the troubleshooting options.

Web Goal URL:

  • Problem #1: Incorrect Web Goal URL
Solution: Review the URL in your Pathmonk CRM and confirm it is entered exactly as shown after a submission. We recommend testing the goal, copying the Web Goal URL, and pasting it directly into Pathmonk. A goal that has "/" should have the character added.  For goals that have parameters, please review our Web Goal URL article for details on entering the correct content into the fields.
  • Problem #2: Web Goal URL is not on the same domain
Solution:  Install Pathmonk Pixel. The Pathmonk Web URL will only track pages within the same domain. For example, www.site.com/thankyou is an acceptable URL because it is part of the domain www.site.com while app.site.com/thankyou is not compatible with the Web Goal URL goal.
  • Problem #3: No Footer on the Web Goal Page
Solution: For Pathmonk to track submissions on a Web Goal Page, the page must have the same footer as the rest of the site.

Pixel:

  • Problem #1: Pixel installed incorrectly
Solution: The pixel must be installed in either the header or the body of the page it will be tracking
  • Problem #2: Incorrect type of Pixel
Solution:  For a detailed explanation of the Pixel tracking options, review our Pixel Goal Tracking article

Zapier:

  • Problem #1: Goals are not sent the entire month
Solution: Review the number of Zaps processed per month. Free Zapier accounts have a limited number of Zaps that can be sent per month and once the limit is reached, Zapier will no longer trigger Zaps to update tracking within Pathmonk.
  • Problem #2: Error messages from Zapier
Solution:  Zapier settings do need to be reviewed as updates to apps can require reconnecting accounts to the Zaps.  If you receive an error for Zapier, log into your Zap, and within the Zap that is not working, click the History to review the errors and get more details.
